Three-phase equipment planning in Calgary needs confirmation of the existing and proposed voltage, phase, demand and utility supply. A larger panel or a higher amp rating does not by itself convert a single-phase service to three-phase.

Read the equipment requirement first
Provide the designer with motor, HVAC, process and other equipment nameplates, including starting behaviour where relevant. Confirm the required supply and how it matches the existing installation. Different voltage and phase arrangements are not interchangeable because the amp number looks similar.
The professional should establish the load, protection, equipment compatibility and distribution design. This is not a homeowner conversion project, and an online checklist cannot determine the appropriate conductor, breaker or service arrangement.

Utility feasibility comes before a supply promise
If the utility connection is changing, obtain the serving utility’s response to the proposed service. An existing commercial building is not proof that a requested voltage or three-phase supply is available at its address. Metering, transformer or infrastructure changes can become separate parts of the project.
ENMAX’s project intake requests upgraded service details and a site plan and requires single-line diagrams for commercial services. Calgary downtown network properties may have additional requirements, so identify that context early.

Design documentation and protection
A commercial distribution review can involve equipment ratings, available fault current and protection coordination. Have the qualified project team determine the engineering and authority requirements. Do not select switchgear from the service amp number alone.
Calgary’s electrical plans checklist identifies review triggers including main-service amperage of 600 or greater, underground conductors 1/0 and larger, or high-voltage main service. The published checklist is a starting reference; confirm applicable review and documents with the City.

Installation, shutdown and records
Prepare the building shutdown and reconnection plan alongside the design. Identify landlord and tenant responsibilities, critical operations, inspection access and restart checks. Request the final one-line, circuit schedule, permit information and the completion records specified in the contract.

No. Amperage, voltage and phase describe different aspects of the supply. Confirm each from the actual service and design records.
Can a panel replacement create three-phase power?
A panel replacement alone does not change the utility supply to three-phase. Supply feasibility and the complete electrical design need review.
